Phuket is Thailand´s largest island connected to the land by a bridge. It is situated in the Andaman sea. It consists of 1 large and 39 small islands. The island is mostly mountainous; only on the western coast you can see beautiful sandy beaches which are nowadays very popular among tourists. The most of the Phuket´s income is derived from the tourism and rubber plantations. In 2004 Phuket was destroyed by a disastrous tsunami; 5300 people were killed. All buildings and other attractions are now restored.
